Minigame Review #4: Skywars

A great minigame, Skywars, is an epic game that can be found on many servers, but is best on the Hypixel server, having evolved more on Hypixel than any others. Skywars is a simple game in the sense that the objective is: Be the last man standing, but has a twist: Everyone is on floating islands that are suspended over endless void. A big risk is getting knocked off into this bottomless abyss. The main weapon that people use to hit people off cliffs are eggs that you can throw. Anything that pushes players far back on contact is an amazing weapon in Skywars.

There are many strategies in Skywars, and one of them is something called 'Trolling,' otherwise known as 'Trapping' or 'Tricking.' Trolling is a big category in Minecraft Skywars, but is typically when you set a trap for other players, either including TNT, a hidden hole on an island, or lava that will burn a player efficiently. The hidden hole traps are surprisingly the funniest of the three. Despite being hard to make, these work very well. Even the smartest of pros can easily walk right into a break in a staircase, or a camouflaged hole.


Top 5 Hypixel Skywars Maps for Trapping:

Clearing 

 Among the best trolling maps, Clearing is nice, and although detailed, it is  fundamentally simple. It is amazing for the 'End Of Staircase' troll, which is a viral trap, that consists of a hole at the end of one of the staircases on the middle island. This trap is nearly impossible to see until the last second, and though it can be evaded by a well timed jump, you can always push the player back into the hole, right after they came out with your fist (or anything). To make this trap you need a decent pickaxe, and once you're done digging the hole, you must burrow through the dirt, appearing on the other side of the floating island, where you can pillar up ('pillaring' is when you jump and place a block under you and repeat).

Tribute

The tribute troll is among the most popular trolls, making it less effective (most people know about it), but is so funny that it's worth a shot. It is similar to the Clearing trap in the sense that you break blocks in the ground that people will hopefully fall into. In the tribute trap you break the blocks in a staircase, and put the blocks you broke underneath the stairs just past your hole.

Submerged

This deep-sea themed map is great on it's own, but also has a great opportunity for trolling in it. You first run down to the basement, and mine the pistons, then you mine a hole at the end of the staircase that stretched all the way to the void. You then fill in the block in the hole next to the piston, and place pressure plates on it. To make the trap work better, you put a wall around the pressure plates so people will fall onto the pressure plates, moving the pistons back, flinging the enemy into the void, or lava.

Like many Hypixel games, kits are an important part of Skywars. A kit is simply a bonus that you can get at the beginning of the game. Get one with the coins you earn by winning or defeating other players.

Cannoneer Kit

Gives you 16 TNT, 4 redstone blocks, a water bucket, and enchanted iron boots. Great for both blowing people up, and making a cannon to launch yourself to the middle island.

Speleologist Kit

Gives you 16 pieces of stone and an enchanted iron pick which lets you mine at top speeds.Great for the tribute troll.

Pyro Kit

Gives you unbreaking flint & steel, 5 buckets of lava, an iron chestplate, and an infinite splash potion of fire resistance. It would be stating the obvious to say that this kit is great for lighting players up, and being fire-proof yourself.

In Skywars, all the teams start in glass cages and must wait a few seconds until the cages disappear, and everyone falls onto their island.
