Minigame Review #5: BedWars

One of the more recent Hypixel games, BedWars is possibly the greatest. With special loot chests, coins, cosmetics, modes, maps, and stats, it is one of the most detailed minigames out there. Hypixel was quite possibly inspired by EggWars (a game on the CubeCraft server) when they created this game, but they made it completely different. With simple maps, easy rules, and long matches, BedWars is a great game for both pros and noobs.

The basic rules are: If you die, you respawn unless your bed is broken. Defend that bed with your life! When I say that, I'm not kidding. It is worth dying (in-game of course) to defend your bed, because without it, it's a struggle to stay in the game. Try to destroy other player's beds so they can't respawn, and will hopefully get eliminated later.

Unlike EggWars, there's only one generator on your island. It spews out iron and gold, which you can use to buy items. Resources in BedWars (Iron, Gold, Emerald, Diamond) are worth more than in EggWars. In Eggwars an enderpearl costs 64 diamonds, but in BedWars a pearl costs only four emeralds. 

There are four modes in BedWars: Solo, Doubles, 3v3v3v3, and 4v4v4v4. These four modes divide up into two main modes: 8-Team games (Solo and Doubles) and 4-Team games (3v3v3v3 and 4v4v4v4). Theses modes are named after how many people are in each team. The main modes are named after the number of teams. Solo and Doubles both have eight teams, the same maps, eight islands, one middle, and four diamond generators. 3v3v3v3 and 4v4v4v4 have four teams, four islands, four diamond generators, and, like all other games, one middle island.

BedWars is considered a detailed game because of all the cosmetics in it. These are special unlockables, such as Victory Daces (a special move or effect that happens when you win, such as cloning yourself many times and making them twerk) and Kill Messages (adds a spin to the basic 'Ben was killed by Bob' and makes it something like 'Ben slipped in BBQ Sauce spilled by Bob'). There are many more types of cosmetics, these are just examples. You can unlock cosmetics from 'Loot Chests,' that you can unlock from winning and doing quests. You can also buy cosmetics using BedWars coins. You earn BedWars coins from winning, killing other players, participating, and from special events.

As if cosmetics aren't enough, there are also levels. When you win, play, break beds, etc. you will get experience. Get 5000 experience points to level up. As of April 2018, the highest level anyone has is 637 (doubled  since December of 2017). An average level would be around 20-35. This adds a competitive side to BedWars, encouraging you to play more to beat your friends. Every time you level up you get a Loot Chest. This is the main way to acquire them.

Best Maps
Rooftop
A nice map filled with hiding spots, Rooftop is a block of skyscrapers and apartments turned into a beautiful BedWars map. Great for speed bridging and ambushing beds.

Crypt
A dark and dreary map, Crypt is filled with excitement and emeralds. Games in Crypt can get pretty stressful pretty fast.

Amazon
A jungle where each island is a temple, Amazon is a great doubles/solo map, and it features many floating temple islands at the middle. Watch your step!

Airshow
Hot air balloons and Blimps are very pretty to look at from the safety of the ground, but when your fighting atop them and jumping from balloon to balloon, things are very different.

Stone Keep
CHARGE! In Stone Keep all player islands are castles and the middle is a ruin with four torches. A favorite of many.

Swashbuckle
Watch out on this pirate-themed map, there are so many wonderful trolls that you can do to people. Sometimes at a diamond generator you will find a chest filled with bones and golden nuggets. Both are useless, but fun to collect.

Ashore
A beach with a lighthouse, Ashore guarantees a simple and relaxing game (unless you take BedWars too seriously). Rush quickly to get the emeralds at the middle, one of the generators is atop the lighthouse. Watch your step, falling could be lethal!
